Critical Software validates critical systems in satellite that studies climate change

CryoSat-2 is a satellite whose mission is to precisely measure alterations in the thickness of ice floating in the oceans and variations in the thickness of ice caps located in Greenland and Antarctica. Critical Software was responsible for the Verification & Validation of the most critical software systems within the satellite, deploying a team of engineers in an effort that resulted in the detection of some anomalies in critical software systems.
"The participation of a team from Critical Software in Friedrichshafen and Munich (Germany) was essential in the effort to complete the different stages of software and integrated system testing. More so, the contribution of Critical Software was broadly praised by members of EADS Astrium", noted Bruno Carvalho, Business Development Manager for the space market at Critical Software.

Critical Software signs cooperation protocols with Mozambican universities

 Giving shape to one of the strategic vectors in the development strategy within the African Continent, Gonçalo Quadros
, Critical Software's Chief Executive Officer, has signed two cooperation protocols with Mozambican Universities. Critical Software's CEO, making the best of being on the business entourage that accompanies the Portuguese Prime-Minister's official visit to Maputo, has signed agreements that entail the company's participation in the formation of Mozambican engineers, cooperation in the outlining of curricular programmes, holding educational workshops and providing end-of-course internships.
Critical Software has, since 2001, maintained an active presence in Maputo. Nowadays, Critical Software provides technological solutions for some of the most prestigious Mozambican organizations, as TDM, mCel, BCI, the Maputo Municipal Council, the Finance Ministry and Petrogal Mozambique.

Reference architecture for a maritime surveillance system

The capacity to supervise Portugal's maritime area is, in many ways, a keystone issue: it's essential for sea environmental protection, an instrument for sustainable management of natural resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone and in the monitoring of the security of maritime traffic lanes, and even in ensuring national sovereignty. This is a complex and multidisciplinary challenge that encompasses: gathering information from several sources, some of which entities with relevance in the field of maritime surveillance, processing information gathered to support the decision process, and lastly, the ability to transmit the information to other agencies whose mission depends greatly on the efficiency of maritime surveillance. Nevertheless, this is a problem with similar characteristics to other challenges existing in several other domains, from which we can learn.

HighRely is a leading provider of DO-178B/DO-254 avionics services and software products, boasting the highest number of Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) and avionics engineers of any services company in its field. HighRely, based in Phoenix, Arizona, has a broad and deep understanding of DO-178B. Under cover of an MoU, this will be used to enhance Critical Software’s capability in high-integrity avionics projects. Furthermore, Critical Software will help High Rely to extend its successful DO-178B and DO-254 training programme for both managers and engineers in the UK.

 The British Ambassador in Madrid invited Critical Software's CEO, Gonçalo Quadros
, to attend an Investors Round Table organized on the occasion of Lord Mervyn Davies' visit to Madrid. Lord Davies is also the joint Minister for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The purpose of this Investors Round Table was for Lord Davies to get better acquainted with some of the most noteworthy investment projects, from both Spanish and Portuguese groups, in the UK. The event took place on the 16th of February 2010 at the British Embassy in Madrid.

Critical Software involvment on the Electric Vehicle Charging Network

 Critical Software successfully showcased the prototype for the Management and Monitoring System for the upcoming National Electric Vehicle Charging Network.
In this showcase event, which took place CEIIA's installations (Centre for Excellency in the Automobile Industry) in Tecmaia, Maia, Portugal, had the participation of several entities, as for example EDP Innovation, EDP Distribution, Martifer, GALP, University of Minho, GAMEP, among others that shared interests in area of Electric Mobility.
The Network Management System is being developed at Critical Software within the scope of the ITEV project – Infrastructure for Charging of Electric Vehicles, in the Transportation area, and encompasses a consortium of companies headed by EFACEC SE, EFACEC Engineering, INTELI, Novabase, Critical Software, CEIIA and is co-financed under QREN.

 Rodrigo Maia, from Critical Software, was part of the jury that evaluated the teams up for the "Innovation" prize, integrated within the Think Industry: F1 in Schools project.
The winner in the "Innovation" prize, which was sponsored and awarded by Critical Software, was Team Burned, from Coimbra's E.B. 2,3 Eugénio de Castro school. Innovation is a natural setting for Critical Software, as it is an area in which we have been a major driving force.
F1 in schools is one of the most important worldwide challenges that want to inspire the next generation to creativity, technology and innovation. Created in England by Andrew Denford, F1 in schools was adapted to the Portuguese reality in 2009 by RECET- Portuguese Technological Centres Network, in order to create a new philosophy among Portuguese youngsters, inspiring them to take on this new reality, which is the most important task in need of being addressed by globalization. RECET wants to help in the development of the next Portuguese generation, helping them to be aware of technology and innovation, to get the industry ready for a new century of challenges. The national competition will take place during May, and the best Portuguese team is going to participate, during September, in the World Championship to choose the best F1 in schools team.
